Hi,
You may be right. It would perhaps be worthwhile to look into "better" transformers but I am not sure that an advantage can be found over just going RCA to XLR adaptor into the balanced inputs and thereby bypassing the...

I got the CD least night. Wow! The obscure Slovakian orchestra and THAT play of Mahler 6th?! Jerry, how did you even find it!!!
It was truly wonderful, I was listening it and was wondering when they “slip” but they did not. Playing Mahler 6th orches...

Romy when you use your transport and DAC how do you connect them. What kind of putputs does the Lavry have, my pre only has xlr ( balanced ) or single ended inputs ,could I use something like the lavry, also do you have a link to pacific microsonics ...

Scott, I'm guessing the installation shown in the photo makes lots of LF, but how does it provide balanced, "free air" loads on both sides of the drivers?Best regards,Paul S...

Two Questions:1) Would it be difficult to replace the switching supply with an external linear supply. You could even get an adjustable one and play with the voltage.2) I have emailed PP three times whether their units can accept 120V balanced power....

I didn't read all 60+ pages so I am sorry if it was already discussed but anyone already tried to use an big Online Datacenter UPS (TrippLite/APC/Other - for entire house?) plus a Balanced AC for audio?I know that would be expensive but maybe someone...

Something else too obvious to mention (yet mentioned here...) is that the tweeter works better if it is also +/- "balanced" against the LF. Broadly speaking, it is partly this "balance" (combined with the brain's ability to fill in "missing" informa...

Hi Thorsten,
"I agree. I
have to note that even in active preamp I/We (the we are friends from
the London Live DIY Circle) tend to prefer TVC's over resistors."
Hmmm....I guess I can't really see that unless you are enjoying a
particular col...

Many audio publications grand some kind of idiotic rewards: “Product of Year”, “Editor Choose Award”, the “Best Sound at Show, “The Golden Ears” and so on. Trying to stay in the moronic awards-granting crowd I decided to form my own award: I would ca...

Paul, et al, I tend to agree that many DHTs can have a fair amount of AC hum output from an AC filament. In general, I've not found any tricks (like humbucking chokes) to make any significant difference. Ideally, a perfectly balanced AC filament "sh...

It is amassing how a guy can so much talk and to say nothing. According him Lamm invented PS and Class A operation…

Yep, Telstar. The 1547 was use in Sony and Teac CD players and believe the first CD-SACD machines used that chip. I know very little about those chips and have none of my personal experience to deal with all of it. The reasons why I brought it up bec...
Money back guarantee???
Well, my research of the subject leaded me to talk with their distributor. He turned out to be very much clueless and loaded me with a pile of incredible BS. I spoke with the guy at the manufact...

Well to pile up superfluous things into audio components in order to make products more expensive is not alien thing in audio. My question was not about to mock the Raven company. It might be fine TT, I do not know anything about them and I do not p...
One did; in reviewing the L2 preamp, John Atkinson (Stereophile) wrote:"...The absolute polarity was preserved from both sets of outputs with the front-panel switch set to "0 degrees," confirming that the XLR jacks ar...

No question the thing needs a good buffer, anyway, and I would prefer to have it single-ended, just so I don't have to change everything over to balanced to make it work. As far as features, including the number of inputs, why not have a +/-modular,...

Imagine you buy a cheap professional SS power amp. One of those AB or D class ones which can be bridged to provide 1,5, 2Kw or more. Imagine you feed it with a perfect sinusoidal tone generator set at 60Hz at its signal input, and that you ...

I picked recently a newly-premastered version of “I Puritani” from 1973 (Universal MCAD3-80356) . Julius Rudel leads London Philharmonic with Ambrosian Opera Chorus. The lead singers are, Ricardo Cassinelli, Nicolai Gedda and of course Beverly Sills....

I briefly listened to this DAC but with a balanced stage using 101D at Fikus location in his listening room (we were testing an anti-vibrational platform I and my partner have designed). The system was a complete unknown to me (Lampoizator own amps o...

The reply posted on behave of Clark Johnsen and with his permission: (Received by email on 1-1-05)
Not sure I understand. You run the speakers floating from ground? Are you doing polarity swithing on the outputs?
Sure, all my secondaryes are no grounded and the speakers are floating. I do not see ...

All that has been discussed at length many times this board. It seems that people continue to confuse neutral and ground, and I agree that it is confusing. Basically, any commercial "power company" power grid supply in the US will be grounded at a se...
There were some educational for myself observations made, in some way saying something about this specific DHT, in some way saying something about Melquiades’ single stage version and the Melquiades’ full-range two-stages ...

There seems to be a standard 2.7V option for you:http://www.phasure.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=rdq01o6tv8ed20nii15hjqnjb0&topic=1560.0"Output level for Single Ended Mode (RCA) is 1.5VRMS (-3dBFS relative to normal Full Scale). Output level for Diffe...

Alrhough the phasure stuff does sound very good, I do not consider it to be “the bleeding edge”. I consider a preamp allergy to be very typical of those “making a point” for instance! Declaring that only 0.6V sounds good on the DAC demonstrates yet m...

Today I listened to a CD dub of early Etta James. Not to speak of the quality of the recording, but it is good enough to hear that Etta sings right up on the mic, and the mic feed is treated to some reverb. I had the volume set at "15", not very lou...
I have recently been thinking about efficiency. Apart from enabling you to use low power amps, is there really any reason why high efficiency is better than low or medium efficiency, all else being equal?
Fundamentally, al...

Bill, thanks for that information. I am curious primarily because it is very rare to hear of a system as complex as yours that is electrically quiet! I suppose that the 100A sub panel is nominal 240V and the 30A legs are nominal 120V. Do you know ...
